They were there for us. Will we be here for them?

The Home Front Cares - Help for military members and their familiesThe Home Front Cares was established to support Colorado military families impacted by deployment, and this mission will continue. But over the past ten years we have watched our support shift dramatically to the veteran population. In 2009, 43% of our assistance was directed toward veterans; in 2012, it was 68%.

The struggles and needs of these veterans are severe. Due to advances in medicine over the past several decades, nearly 90% of today's wounded U.S. military service members survive their injuries, but are left with severe disabilities including multiple amputations. Studies show that 20% of these service members suffer from PTSD or major depression, and 18 veterans commit suicide each day. Even if their wartime experience hasn't scarred them inside and out, these veterans face challenges re-integrating into their communities. Most wounded service members wait 13 months or more for their VA disability evaluation. The unemployment rate for young veterans age 18 to 24 is nearly 30%. On any given night, some 67,000 veterans are homeless across America.

It is estimated that 100,000 or more military members will be forced out of the service in the next few years as the wars wind down and the military contracts. The Home Front Cares aims to stop the humiliation stemming from high divorce rates, high unemployment, homelessness and the like. To date, the needs of our returning veterans have been little noticed outside military communities. In the next few years, it will become visible to all of America. The Home Front Cares is dedicated to raising awareness of this issue, and preparing ourselves as an organization to grow with the need. With your support, we will broaden our reach and strengthen our already robust programs to ensure that our Colorado veterans can return home and rejoin their communities with the dignity, liberty and security they have fought to give us.

About Us

The Home Front Cares (THFC) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation that provides responsive emergency financial aid and other support to Colorado service members, veterans and military families. Since our inception, THFC has raised more than $4 million to help needy veterans and military families with rent/mortgage, utilities, car and home repairs, childcare, groceries, and other essential life needs. According to our 2012 audit - nearly 87 cents of every dollar goes directly to emergency financial aid and other programs. We have a strong partnership with local military installations, VA offices, and various other referring agencies throughout the state of Colorado. Our aid is grants, not loans, and our clients are vetted to confirm their military service and financial needs. Many of our grants are approved in less than 24 hours - an essential capability because quite often, our aid is the lass "save" that keeps a veteran from being evicted or a military family from having their power turned off.
